About Us

How it all began

The ICKL traces its origins to the 1st International Workshop on Variation and Change in Kurdish, held at the University of Bamberg in 2013. This inaugural event was a milestone, bringing together scholars to explore and discuss the nature of Kurdish linguistics. Encouraged by its success, a 2nd International Workshop on Variation and Change in Kurdish was held the following year at the Mardin Artuklu University in Turkey. By its third gathering in 2016, held in Amsterdam, the workshop evolved into the International Conference on Kurdish Linguistics (ICKL), solidifying its role as a biennial meeting point for scholars advancing research on Kurdish and its interactions with neighboring languages.
